Company Information

1950s

  • June 1957
    Nippon Broadcasting System and Nippon Cultural Broadcasting, Inc., joined by three movie companies (Toho Co., Ltd., Shochiku Co., Ltd., and Daiei Motion Picture Co., Ltd), applied for TV broadcasting license as “Fuji Television”.
  • July 1957
    Fuji Television was granted a provisional license, allotted with channel 8 and call letters JOCX.
  • November 1957
    Established Fuji Television Co. Ltd., (Addressed at 1-7 Yurakucho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. Capitalized at 600 million yen.)
  • December 1958
    Changed corporate name to Fuji Television Network Inc.
  • January 1959
    Fuji Television was granted full broadcasting license and completed their headquarter building in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.
  • March 1959
    Fuji Television began broadcasting with video output of 10kw.
  • June 1959
    Signed the Core 4 Station Network Agreement, establishing the foundation for FNS (Fuji Network System).

1960s

  • January 1960
    Increased video output to 50kw.
  • December 1962
    Moved the headquarter office location to 7 Ichgayai-Kawada-cho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.
  • September 1964
    Started the regular broadcasting of color television.

1970s

  • October 1970
    Fuji Television established its nationwide network with FNS's 27 stations through the second wave of openings of UHF operations.
  • October 1978
    Fuji Television began audio multiplex broadcasting.
  • July 1979
    Established Fujimic Inc., an information systems development company (currently a consolidated subsidiary).

1980s

  • March 1982
    Acquired program production company Kyodo Television, Co., Ltd. as a subsidiary (currently a consolidated subsidiary).
  • September 1985
    Pacific Music Publishing Inc. merged with Fuji Music Publishing Co., Ltd., and changed its name to Fuji-Pacific Music Publishing Inc. (currently Fuji Pacific Music Inc., a consolidated subsidiary).
  • December 1985
    Fuji Television began teletext broadcasting.
  • August 1987
    Fusosha Publishing Inc. merged with Sankei Publishing Co., Ltd. (currently a consolidated subsidiary).
  • October 1987
    Pony, Inc. merged with Canyon Record Co., Ltd., changing its name to Pony Canyon Inc. (currently a consolidated subsidiary).
  • August 1989
    The first generation Clear Vision broadcasting service began.
    Established Fuji Television Art Center, Inc. (currently Fuji Art Co., Ltd., a consolidated subsidiary) by separating a division of Fuji Television's art department.

1990s

  • November 1990
    Started test broadcasting high-definition television (HDTV).
  • March 1991
    Established Fujisankei Living Service, Inc. (currently Dinos Corporation, a consolidated subsidiary), a mail order company.
  • November 1994
    Fuji Television received a license for High Vision practical use trial station.
  • April 1995
    Merged with Fujisankei Group Holdings, Inc. in order to strengthen management structure.
  • September 1995
    Wide Clear Vision broadcasting (EDTV Ⅱ) began.
  • October 1995
    Unified program production subsidiaries and established Fuji Creative Corporation (currently a consolidated subsidiary).
  • March 1997
    Completed the construction of new headquarter office building at 2-4-8 Daiba, Minato-ku, Tokyo.
  • April 1997
    Moved the headquarter office location to 2-4-8 Daiba, Minato-ku, Tokyo.
  • August 1997
    Fuji Television went public in the Tokyo Stock Exchange, First Section Market.
  • April 1998
    Fuji Television was certified to operate commissioned broadcasting of two CS digital channels under the Broadcast Act, and began broadcasting CS channel "Fuji TV 721".
  • December 1998
    Established BS digital broadcasting company, BS Fuji, Inc. (currently a consolidated subsidiary).
  • April 1999
    Started broadcasting CS channel "Fuji TV 739".

2000s

  • December 2000
    BS Fuji Co., Ltd., a BAS digital broadcasting company, began broadcasting.
  • April 2003
    Received a preliminary license for terrestrial digital broadcasting from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
  • December 2003
    Fuji Television started terrestrial digital broadcasting.
  • April 2004
    Merged Japan Executive Center Co., Ltd. and Fuji Jinzai Center, forming Fuji Sankei Jinzai Center, Inc. (currently Fuji Career Design, Inc., a consolidated subsidiary).
  • September 2005
    Fuji Television completed the acquisition of Nippon Broadcasting System, Inc. through a simplified stock exchange based on the provisions of Article 3, Paragraph 1 of the Industrial Revitalization Special Measures Law.
  • April 2006
    Fuji Television started the "One-Seg" service for mobile devices, and absorbed Nippon Broadcasting Holdings, Inc.
  • July 2007
    Established NEXTEP Inc.
  • September 2007
    The "Wangan Studio" was completed in Koto-ku, Tokyo.
  • October 2007
    Advertising-related companies were merged to establish Quaras Co., Ltd. (now a consolidated subsidiary).
  • October 2008
    Fuji Television changed to a certified broadcasting holding company system and changed its name to Fuji Media Holdings, Inc. At the same time, Fuji Television, an independent subsidiary television broadcaster, was established through corporate split.
  • July 2009
    Fuji Television acquired direct ownership of catalog sales company, Cecile Co., Ltd., through a tender offer.

2010s

  • April 2011
    BS Fuji Co., Ltd. became a wholly-owned subsidiary through a stock exchange.
  • July 2011
    Analog broadcasting was terminated, and completely switched over to terrestrial digital broadcasting.
  • March 2012
    Sankei Building Co., Ltd., a real estate company, became a consolidated subsidiary through a tender offer.
  • May 2013
    The transmission station for terrestrial television broadcasting was moved from Tokyo Tower to Tokyo Skytree.
  • July 2013
    Dinos Co., Ltd. absorbed Cecile Co., Ltd. and Fuji Direct Marketing Co., Ltd. and changed its name to Dinos Corporation (currently a consolidated subsidiary).
  • April 2015
    GRANVISTA Hotels & Resorts became a consolidated subsidiary through share acquisition by Sankei Building Co., Ltd.
  • December 2016
    Sendai Hoso Co., Ltd., an FNS-affiliated station, became a consolidated subsidiary through additional share purchases.
  • December 2018
    BS Fuji Co., Ltd. started BS4K broadcasting.

2020s

  • March 2021
    Dinos & Cecile Co., Ltd. transferred the Cecile business to a company unrelated to the group and changed its name to Dinos Corporation.
  • April 2022
    Fuji Media Holdings, Inc. shifted from the First Section Market to the Prime Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange's market classification review.
